11 Of The Best Cycling Quotes

I’m a sucker for a quote. I really am. Here are 11 of the best to waste some work time reading. Print them out, stick them on your wall, on your bike, on your girlfriend. Go wild. I can relate to no.9 though. The header also in no way relates to this post, but I really love the illustration!

1. The bicycle is a curious vehicle.  Its passenger is its engine. - John Howard

2. It never gets easier. You just go faster. – Greg LeMond

3. Most bicyclists in New York City obey instinct far more than they obey the traffic laws, which is to say that they run red lights, go the wrong way on one-way streets, violate cross-walks, and terrify innocents, because it just seems easier that way.  Cycling in the city, and particularly in midtown, is anarchy without malice. - Author unknown, from New Yorker, “Talk of the Town”

4. The bicycle is just as good company as most husbands and, when it gets old and shabby, a woman can dispose of it and get a new one without shocking the entire community. - Ann Strong

5. Until mountain biking came along, the bike scene was ruled by a small elite cadre of people who seemed allergic to enthusiasm.  - Jacquie Phelan

6. Get a bicycle.  You will not regret it if you live. – Mark Twain, “Taming the Bicycle”

7. Life is like riding a bicycle – in order to keep your balance, you must keep moving. - Albert Einstein

8: It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.  Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. - Ernest Hemingway

9. The sound of a car door opening in front of you is similar to the sound of a gun being cocked.  - Amy Webster

10. The secret to mountain biking is pretty simple.  The slower you go the more likely it is you’ll crash.  - Julie Furtado

11. The thing I like to do is not think of it as ‘pain’, but as ‘that feeling I get when I’m riding correctly’. Do that long enough and you’ll actually start to believe it. - Mark Hickey
