Not really my style, but if you like the BMW M series and it didn’t quite come in on budget, then this new M Carbon Racer might be a nice alternative. And more eco-friendly too. Although sans that lovely sounding exhaust noise. So while it doesn’t have a front bumper intake and rear exhaust manifold influenced by the M3 or an optional M dual clutch transmission instead of a automatic transmission, it does have an anthracite frame which is made of carbon to be light, stiff and rust-free, while the signature red trim on the wheels and handlebars mark a nice nod to the M division heritage as BMW’s high-performance motorsport arm.
The BMW bike department develop their own frames and have been quietly producing high-spec bikes for 60 years! They kept that very quiet. This ultralight (7.4kg) machine is also packaged with Shimano Ultegra components, bit strange that it’s not Dura Ace really.
Altogether I’m not sold, I’m sure it’s a beautiful bike, but doesn’t totally inspire me to run out and order one. Like I said though, not really my style.
Available from July through BMW dealers, price available on request.
