Kriek looking for medal at Student Games – The South African student cycling team – spear headed by Christiaan Kriek – wants to win a medal or two at the Student Games in Shenzhen, China. Approximately 13 000 students from 175 countries will participate in the Game with more than 20 events from 12-23 August.

Taylor times sprint perfectly to claim Randfontein EPR Challenge – Multiple South African champion, Cherise Taylor (Team USN), timed her sprint to perfection to win the Randfontein EPR Cycle Challenge west of Johannesburg at the weekend.

Kulhavy Takes 4th MTB World Cup Victory – Czechoslovakian Jaroslav Kulhavy (Specialized) won his fourth UCI MTB World Cup victory of the season in front of a home crowd, wrapping up the overall title with one race remaining. SA’s Burry Stander finished 19th. U23 Mariske Strauss and Caitlin de Wet and finished 17th and 20th respectively.

Teenager Upstages Big Guns To Win Clover Lowveld Tour – Nineteen-year-old Toyota CSA Academy member, Louis Meintjes, upstaged some of South Africa’s most experienced professionals to win the five-day Clover Lowveld road cycling stage race that finished in Graskop, Mpumalanga on Tuesday.

Boasson Hagen Wins Eneco Tour – Norwegian rider Edvald Boasson Hagen won the Eneco Tour on Sunday after the Sky rider took the sixth and final stage.

Philippe Gilbert edges towards move to BMC Racing – Philippe Gilbert, the Belgium road race champion who won stage three of the Eneco Tour on Thursday, is edging closer to signing for American team BMC Racing, according to Belgian press reports.

Riding for pleasure – There’s news that Jan Ullrich is riding amateur events under a false name. He’s calling himself Max Kraft in order to ride smaller events, apparently to avoid the limelight… although obviously he’s been rumbled now and the Belgian media are all over it meaning an end to his privacy. Note Kraft is the German for power so his name is Max Power.
