Wednesday Afternoon Headlines

Boasson Hagen to miss Paris-Roubaix – I can’t wait for this! But bleak to hear this. “Achilles injury ends Classics campaign.” (cyclingnews.com)

Illness hits Armstrong’s tour preparation – I see a pattern forming here… “Seven-times Tour champion Armstrong pulled out of the Circuit de la Sarthe with gastro-enteritis after he missed the Milan-San Remo classic last month for the same reasons.” (supersport)

Family of hit and run victim ‘devastated’ as sentence announced –  ”The family of cyclist and Hertfordshire business owner Kenny Lush, who was killed in a road traffic accident in May 2009, have revealed they are ‘devastated’ at the sentence given to the ‘hit and run’ driver.” (CTC)

Cyclists, don’t be gutter-bunnies, urges motoring org – “The Institute of Advanced Motorists is urging cyclists to make themselves seen and to “claim their lane”, moving out into the middle of the lane when approaching a junction or parked cars.” (Bike For All)

Specialized unveil Project Black machine for Saxo Bank – “Saxo Bank team sponsors Specialized have provided a few of their riders with their latest ‘Project Black’ road bike for this Sunday’s Paris-Roubaix.” (bikeradar)

The Cyclehoop converts lamp-posts to kerbside bike racks – “Will you use them? Councils are cock-a-hoop over a new way to let cyclists lock their bikes to lamp-posts. What do users make of them?” I like it! (theguardian)

Race OS Mountain Mayhem for Alpkit – “Outdoor gear company Alpkit is looking for riders to race in its team at the 2010 Original Source Mountain Mayhem on 18-20 June at Eastnor Castle in Ledbury, Herefordshire.” (bikemagic)

City Cycle concept bike – Yes I know, another concept bike. But I quite like this one. “The City Cycle concept was the final school project of Christian Vollmer, a recent graduate of the University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt, Germany. The bike is a Pedelec type, meaning that the electric motor assists pedaling, but cannot replace it (no throttle control).” (bicycle design)

Sue of Oz has lid law case quashed – “In Australia, bicycle helmets are compulsory for all cyclists. Last year, Sue Abbott, a doctor’s wife of rural New South Wales, decided to fight a AU$54 helmet fine, spending thousands of dollars in a legal challenge. She rides a Dutch-style sit-up-and-beg bike and doesn’t feel she need a helmet when cycling slowly around her small home town. She lost her case. She decided to appeal. Last week, she won.” (quickreleasetv)
